»Sleeping Child«

by Thabani Ray Ngwenya, September 21, 2009

Sleep on my little one
Sleep well my child
May your dreams be sweet and peaceful
Let me kiss you good night
Sleep on my child
And you will grow tall and strong.

Your eyes have not seen much yet
Good for you, you are young
For life is no fairy tale my son
Now you are little and ignorant
When older and wiser
You will understand.

If only your father were here
My troubled heart would be content
I do not mean to spoil your little dreams
But I wish you knew him
Only God knows where he is
If he lives.

Hear the silence of the night
A sweep lullaby for a child
Brace yourself my child
For cold, windy, sleepless nights
That's the way of life my boy
You are safe here with your mother
I am here and will watch you grow.

Sleeping child fear not the dark night
It is a time to overcome fear, to manifest strength
I see honor and good repute in you
You are my pride and confidence
I know you will rule the world some day
Those who see your face will draw back in fear
Those who submit will have their lives spared.

I am your mother and I am your father too
You are my only child
Listen! The world jeers and taunts
Bear with me through these trying times
What I can provide you will have, dear
I can not give you the world on a silver platter
But you mean the world to me.

Sleep tight, let me cover your head
See you come early morn
But for now, rest your weary soul
You innocent like an angel
Yes, you are my little angel
Good night, my sleeping child.

She strolls in the lazy summer breeze / In calmness of spirit / And serenity of thought / Her eyes are shut / And she will stumble / If she will, if at all / The woods seemingly do not give / The slightest scare / And though her feet bare / Instinct makes her dare / She enjoys her new found / Sense of  sign in to read more »

Look at me now / Still happy as he good ole days / Beer in hand / Women all around / I'm fit as a fiddle / And jovial as a lark / Maybe I am immortal / / Look at me now / Still burly and sturdy / Bold and intrepid / I am a man mountain / Never will I be washed to sea / Serve for my good number of years / I am  sign in to read more »
