»Moment of silence«

by Alexis Napjadi Petje, January 8, 2010

Touched the heavens in a moment of silence
Surrounded by faces, glued to the pinpoint of time
The unsightly hand that beats in the left centre of the heart
Touched the toes of gods below the clouds and tickled the armpits of the fallen
I rummage, choking on sorrow and glee
An irony in motion

Faith speaks to me in cycles
Allowing the child within to see the light
A torch,
The pathfinder of memories suppressed by music and perfume
Tales of the girl that danced to the beat behind the beat
Gyrating to poetic inferences in the lyric written for another time and place

Saw the man goddess cry
Tears for the street that drank its fill
The boys and girls without surnames lost at corners
Ghosts of you and I waiting for a ritual, a carrying off of sorts

Tenacity is a known comrade
A champion for this cause of self redemption
Of finding the Spirit's mercy at the doorstep of birth and death
Touched by the air that fades rhythmically.
