»Virtue of the child«

by Ntombizonke Happiness Mehlomakulu, October 8, 2010

I am a child born of good intent
But, am I wrong for being here?
I need to know if this is true.
Who can answer me?
I really need to know who am I
I am young yet, feel besieged
Why is this so?
Where's my virtue
I'm raped of my being and feel voiceless
I'm consigned to darkness
Far from warmth
I'm left to ponder the future alone
I feel naked, neglected – a reject of the truth
I'm crying out for love shell for the truth
Who can answer me?

Mama works and embraces her job
Papa drinks and cherishes alcohol
Mama sees no pain in me
Mama doesn't know me
Mama is besotted by money and material wealth
Mama grants no safety and security
I am a joke, a reject of parental love
Who can answer me?
I really need to know who am I

I'm crying for my innocence
I long for the warmth experienced in my mother's womb
The place was warm, I was loved
I was cared for, I was fed
I was precious to mama, but nay, not now
Why is this so?
Where's my virtue
Who can answer me?
I really need to know who am I

Why me
Where's my virtue?
Why am I a girl to mama?
Yet a woman to papa
I'm just an innocent child
I demand my virtue.
I am an innocent child.
I long for that parental and motherly warmth
Mama! Please Mama! Look at me
I am crying for that love
My arms are ready to be wrapped around you
I want to appreciate that love
Give me my virtue back, I demand
