»Oh Wine!«

by Rafeel Wasif, April 4, 2011

I want intoxication and the wine
A season of reason this world be yet passion is divine

In the night of darkness, Hearken I the symphony of the nightingale,
Yet why might my heart see what my eyes didn't dare?

The discord of its tears, smooth like a stream
And the beauty with which they scream

Calling the just Lord with a clarion voice of innocence
Like a toddler crying for its mother just to hold it once

Listen I to them, yet little violence they do to this body of corruption
But then oh Wine! You be my unction

Baptize my senses with your ecstasy
Anoint this seasoned sinner with unreasoned chastity

And take me to the God in whose books you are forbidden
Who created you to tempt Adam and man, his Scion

In the desert of this world, you are a worker of mirage
I am sickened by the thirst of disbelief, therefore be my Mairaaj!

And take me to the very lord that detests you
For without you I cannot reach beyond the seven skies
