»Listen to yourself«

by Edward Mukwakwami, July 5, 2012

I hear you, but listen to yourself
You might just hear the wailing of my heart
Maybe you might just hear the splattering of my teardrops of joy
From my excited heart
Listen to what you are saying
You might just hear careless whispers
By angels who might have fallen for your charm
Listen to your inner self and remember
so powerful are the words already spoken
gone like the hour before, you cannot take them back
listen carefully, you might just hear witches gossiping
saying you are fit to be one of their kind
maybe you might just hear the thudding sound
of fleeing blessings' footsteps
remember before you speak
wicked words can be a weapon of mass destruction
wise words have to be that one precious tool needed to build a city in a day
listen to what you are going to say in advance
so you can mute your voice when about to utter wicked words
listen to what you are about to say
say it loud and clear if you know you you'll smile
if you hear it from someone else
even if you listen even more carefully
but not chew your wicked words
you shall never hear the good news I'd been longing to tell you
