»Unborn Dreams«

by Abdul Milazi, July 25, 2017

The desert thirsts
Where sands of a scorched world
Drink the mirage of a poisoned oasis
Skulls and bones gather stone tears for cairns
To mark mass graves of unborn dreams

The sun never belonged to us
Neither did the stars and the moon
That light up the nightmares of our dreams
Winds of change
Change nothing in the desert skyline
But only irritate the shape-shifting sand gods
Demons become saints in holy books
Gods to whom our survival depends
Locked in the immortal battle between earth and sky

We welcome the arrival of chaos
And victory over chaos
The nature and the ecstasy of life
Our identities are tightly held together by loose dialogues
Asserting our individual freedoms by consensus
Group thought becomes “thinking”
In the quest for harmony
And a protrusion of a collective orgasm

Sands of a scorched world
Drink the mirage of a poisoned oasis
Skulls and bones gather stone tears for cairns
To mark mass graves of unborn dreams
The desert thirsts
Still

Freedom finds comfort in the warmth of our urine / Happy to worship folk heroes with fanciful talk / Sharpeville came to Marikana as a reminder / That Biko and Sobukwe still live / That we still remain captives / Caged behind bars of crass political mediocrity / Our consciousness has become a cliché / We  sign in to read more »

I drank from ancient rivers as old as time / But never so sweet as the nectar of her smile / / She was just a girl named Jazz / Her beauty I could not capture in words / / Her eyes spoke truth / She said her real name was Ruth / / She cried a melancholic tune / Serenading the intoxicated moon / / Night  sign in to read more »
