»You Taught Me«

by Fay Mbiwa ThePoet, November 16, 2017

You took my hand
And whispered to me gently
"You are mine, today I have begotten thee."
You promised me all
And taught me to steal not
You are good to me; a worthless piece of clay.

You told me I shall not want
Because You have a Shepherd been
You lifted my chin
And taught me to look up
I turned the other cheek
Just as You instructed me
And now I bask in Grace.

You became my habitation
You became my fortress
You became the shadow
I abide in
You know me by name
I stand out because You are in me
And I am in You

Yes You care, I know You care
Your heart is touched with my grief
You kept Your promise
Of sorrounding me with
An edge of fire
No fear comes near me.

I look and see the recompense
Of all my foes
Because You spoke to me
And whispered to me
"A little while, and I shall avenge
Those who pursue you."
I shook with joy
Because You won the battle.

Your word fulfills its purpose
Without returning to You in vain
I lie down and sleep knowing
You shall watch over me
The arrow that flies at noon day
Or follies that wastes at midnight.
You have delivered me from them
My feet stand on the Solid Rock.

You taught me light
And revealed Grace
I fear no man because Grace
Has become my protection
